The Saying on the Stone
The current plan is to place one headstone between the brothers, who are buried ten feet apart, at the West Boarder plot #59. Charles is to the left (West Boarder Plot #57), and William is to the right (West Boarder Plot #63. An example of what the stone will look like is pictured here.
On the stone, we have Charles' birth and death year on the left, and William on the right, as that is their resting proximity to each other.
"AND ALL THE SOULS LAID TO REST HERE" must be placed on the stone to honor all the other people who are buried in the mass grave, and we are honored to have this inscribed.
Next, the current phrase that will be used is:
"Charles and William came from Drogheda, Ireland and settled in Philadelphia. William was one of the best uilleann pipers of his day. Together the brothers were renowned instrument makers, innovating changes to the Irish uilleann pipes which elevated their captivating sound from the parlors of homes to the stages of the world."
And finally:
AR DHEIS DÉ GO RAIBH A N-ANAMACHA
which roughly translated from Irish means: may they be seated on the right hand side of God.
Many thanks to N. Whitmer, R. Piggott, M. Kelly, and B. Matthews for helping us brainstorm the saying, and also make sure we have the dates correct.
