The Saying on the Stone

The headstone will be placed between the brothers, who are buried ten feet apart, at the West Boarder plot #59. Charles is to the left (West Boarder Plot #57), and William is to the right (West Boarder Plot #63).

"AND ALL THE SOULS LAID TO REST HERE" must be placed on the stone to honor all the other people who are buried in the mass grave, and we will include this because it is the right thing to do.

Next, we mention the location the brothers are most associated with in Ireland: Drogheda, which is in a city located on the River Boyne, just 30 or so miles north of Dublin. We also mention the location the brothers finally settled, and eventually died  in America: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The Taylor brothers were innovative makers of the Irish uilleann bagpipes who reimagined the instrument in the New World and in turn transformed the voice of Irish music.

And indeed, their legacy lives on

And finally:

Are dheis Dé go raibh a n-anamacha

which roughly translated from Irish means: may they be seated on the right hand side of God.

Many thanks to Nick Whitmer, Richie Piggott, Michael Kelly, and Brendan Matthews for helping us with historical accuracy and providing ideas and suggestions for the inscription. Many thanks to Tom Klein for his Taylor Brothers pipes artwork for the stone.

TARGET DATE FOR THE DEDICATION IN PHILADELPHIA: APRIL 2027. ALL ARE WELCOME.
